| Aromatherapy Massage | ||||||||||||||
|
Aromatherapy dates back to ancient Egypt, where
plants and flowers were distilled to extract
their essential oils. In the early 20th century a French chemist and perfumier, Rene Gattefosse, badly burned his hand whilst working in his laboratory. In an attempt to cool the burn he plunged his hand into a vat of lavender essential oil that was waiting to be used in perfume. He found that the burn healed extremely quickly, without blistering or scarring, and he then went on to research the healing properties of other plants. How does it work? Each essential oil from a flower, plant, root, leaf or piece of bark contains up to one hundred different chemical components which can have a strong effect on the whole person. producing relaxation. What does it involve? An aromatherapy massage consultation will begin with me finding out about your medical history and what you would like the therapy to achieve for you. On the basis of the information you provide, I will then mix a recipe of essential oils, which is individually designed to suit your needs. This blend can then be used in the massage. What is it good for? Aromatherapy can be used for a variety of physical and emotional problems including stress, anxiety, depression, fatigue, pain, insomnia, coughs and colds, burns, scar tissue, digestive. What are the side effects and when should it be avoided? Some essential oils must be strictly avoided during pregnancy, if you are epileptic, have high blood pressure or sensitive skin or intend to go into strong sunshine after applying the oils. During the consultation, you will be advised of any potential contraindication. |

| Indian Head Massage | ||||||||||||||
|
Indian head massage is based on the Ayurvedic
system of healing which has been practiced in
India for over a thousand years. How does it work? The aim of Indian head massage is to release the stress that has accumulated in the tissues, muscles and joints of the head, face, neck and shoulders. What does it involve? The therapist will massage around the back, neck, shoulder and head, kneading deeply into those tight muscles and also using pressure points to release the tension. In addition, the therapist will also gently stimulate and stroke pressure points on the face. What is it good for and what are the benefits? Indian head massage is especially good for relieving stress, tension, fatigue, insomnia, headaches, migraine, sinusitis, tight and aching neck and shoulders, eye strain and backache. Often the amount of movement in the neck is improved and shoulders feel about 2 feet lower. Clients report that the experience is deeply calming and relaxing, leaving them feeling energised and revitalised and better able to concentrate. |

Reflexology Reflexology, which has its roots in ancient Egypt, works on the principle that every organ and system of the body has a corresponding point or zone in the feet. How does it work? A reflexology practitioner uses light pressure to massage each of the points in the toes, feet and ankles to release tension, remove energy blockages, stimulate blood circulation and promote healing of both body and mind. What does it involve? The client will be asked to remove their footwear and will lie on a massage couch whilst the treatment is given. Generally, most clients report that a reflexology treatment is wonderfully relaxing and soothing, and many people fall asleep. Each session will last about an hour and, in most cases, a series of sessions are necessary to resolve any problems. What is it good for and what are the benefits? Reflexology can be used to treat a wide range of disorders including skin and respiratory conditions, such as eczema or asthma, constipation, migraine, PMS and menopausal problems, chronic fatigue, stress, depression and anxiety or insomnia. |

Reiki Treatments Reiki healing is an ancient way to activate and harmonise our natural life energy. It was rediscovered by Dr. Mikao Usui (1865-1926) after years of researching its Indian and Tibetan origins. The Usui method of natural healing is a method of receiving and passing on Reiki energy, through laying on of hands. This healing treatment channels energy to areas of need. Reiki is received through clothing, with you lying on a massage couch. You are left with a sense of feeling rebalanced and refreshed. During or after a Reiki treatment, you may also experience some or all of the following benefits: Deep relaxation Stress relief Strengthening of the natural healing and immune system Increase in energy and vitality Detoxification Release of emotional and/or energetic blockages |

Seated
Acupressure Seated acupressure massage (sometimes also called on-site massage) is based on the traditional Japanese acupressure technique called anma (Japanese for ‘press and rub’). How does it work? Unlike acupuncture, seated acupressure massage does not use needles. Instead, the therapist uses his or her hands to press the acupressure points, as well as rubbing and kneading other tight and tense muscles. The result is that muscles relax and tension is released. The amount of movement around the neck and shoulder and whole of the back is improved, along with the circulation being boosted. What does it involve? The client, fully dressed, sits facing forward in an ergonomically designed massage chair. As the client relaxes and rests their chin and forehead on a thickly padded platform designed for the purpose, the therapist uses their hands and fingers to apply pressure to the acupressure points on the client’s head, neck, shoulders, upper arms and spine. What is it good for and what are the benefits? Seated acupressure massage is excellent for relieving stress and tension. It helps with backache, repetitive strain injury, asthma, headaches, migraines, toothache, fatigue, sinus problems, menstrual pain, digestive problems, eyestrain, anxiety, irritability and insomnia. |

Thai Yoga Massage The traditional healing massage of Thailand originated in India during the Buddha’s lifetime, over 2500 years ago. Monks in Thailand originally used this therapy as one element of their healing practices, which consisted of dietary advice, the use of herbs, meditation, and what we now call Thai massage. How does it work? This form of massage involves manipulation using stretching techniques and gentle pressure along the energy lines of the body. All areas of the body are treated, from head to toe, with the aim of releasing muscle tension, improving joint mobility, boosting circulation and facilitating good health. What does it involve? Thai massage is carried out on a mat or thin mattress, which is laid out on the floor. The therapist uses both their hands and feet to apply pressure to the client’s fully-clothed body and to carry out a range of gentle stretching movements. It is best to wear loose, comfortable clothing and to allow at least 2 hours after a big meal, prior to the treatment or 1 hour after a light snack. What is it good for and what are the benefits? This form of massage is especially good for releasing stress and tension, and encouraging relaxation of both mind and body. Clients report that Thai massage is wonderfully soothing and relaxing and leaves them feeling energised, refreshed and with a deep sense of well-being. It can help with backache, knee pain, stiff joints, frozen shoulder, neck pain, headaches, digestive problems, menstrual irregularities and a range of other conditions. |
